Tom Aspinall has his eyes set on being “the best heavyweight ever” as he prepares for his rematch UFC 304 with Curtis Blaydes in Manchester.
As the MMA world eagerly anticipates UFC 304, all eyes are on our GK Ambassador Tom Aspinall. Known for his explosive power and technical prowess, Aspinall is set to make waves in the octagon once again. Here’s a look at how the British powerhouse is preparing for this monumental event.
Aspinall has quickly risen through the ranks, earning a reputation as one of the most dangerous fighters in the heavyweight division. His last performance left fans, and analysts alike, in awe of his potential.
Training Camp: The Grind Behind the Glory
Aspinall’s preparation for UFC 304 has been intense and meticulously planned. Training out of our own partner training facility Evolution fitness XL, his camp focuses on honing every aspect of his game.
- Strength and Conditioning: Aspinall’s regimen includes rigorous strength and conditioning sessions to enhance his power, speed, and endurance. His strength coach has designed a program that maximises his physical capabilities, ensuring he can maintain a high pace throughout the fight.
- Technical Drills: Under the guidance of his coaches, Aspinall spends countless hours refining his striking and grappling techniques. Whether it’s perfecting his jab or improving his takedown defence, every detail is scrutinised to give him an edge over his opponent.
- Sparring Sessions: Sparring is a crucial part of Aspinall’s training. He regularly faces off against top-tier training partners, simulating fight conditions to sharpen his skills and strategies. These sessions are designed to prepare him for the unpredictability of a real fight.
- Mental Preparation: Mental fortitude is just as important as physical preparation. Aspinall works with a sports psychologist to develop his mental game, focusing on visualisation, stress management, and maintaining composure under pressure.
Even with his tight schedule we managed surprise and meet a lucky fan during training.
Ottis, 16, who originates from Antigua got a chance to do a pad session with Aspinall who captured UFC gold last November at Madison Square Garden in New York on two week’s notice, beating undefeated Russian Sergei Pavlovich inside one round.
Turning up during his own training session, Tom not only surprised Ottis but he also put on some pads and gave him some 1-on-1 coaching.
Tom Aspinall said “It’s really important to me to give back to young fans like Ottis. He’s been through some tough times but has showed great strength and courage to come through them and it’s really inspiring. He has come to a few of my meet and greet events in the past and has never got the chance to meet me, so I’ve come to surprise him and put a smile on his face.”
